Summer Planting in Zone 9

Summer Planting – What Can I Grow?

Just because it’s summer and it’s quite hot here in the south, doesn’t mean you can’t grow. This is an important growing season for a variety of plants. Both June and July have good food you can grow so be sure to take advantage of it. Summer planting is so much fun!

Here in Zone 9a where I live there is a lot of overlap for June and July of being able to plant the same things so succession growing is a great plan.

June

  1. Beans
  2. Eggplant
  3. Kale
  4. Okra
  5. Parsnips
  6. Peas
  7. Pumpkins
  8. Sweet Potatoes

July

  1. Beans
  2. Broccoli
  3. Collards
  4. Eggplant
  5. Okra
  6. Onions
  7. Peas
  8. Pumpkins
  9. Tomato
  10. Turnip
  11. Watermelon

This is what I know grows well during these times in my area. I know there are other foods you can grow in your garden depending on the type or the conditions on if you use a greenhouse or not. I don’t have a greenhouse so these are what grows well in my garden beds or directly in the ground.
